Brooklyn's Baptism Weekend

We had a jam-packed weekend. We stayed at the lake house Friday night, and got to see some of Erik's family on Saturday morning. Happily, Erik's aunt Ruth was in town, and she and his grandma Verla drove up to see us.

Then, it was off to Annette and Harlow's for a family get together. Simon really liked being able to run and play on an acreage. Mom and Dad didn't have to keep pulling him away from this street-thing they keep telling him about.

The next morning, Nancy competed in the Sioux Falls Half-Marathon. She did really well, 25th out of all 559 women that ran it. We were glad she was so quick, because we had to hurry back for Brooklyn's Baptism.

Brooklyn is Simon's youngest cousin and Erik and Nancy were her Baptismal Sponsors. Simon sits on pews as well as he sit on waffle-irons, so he went to brunch with Erik's parents and his great-aunt Ruth, and his great-grandma Verla.

It was a busy weekend for Simon, so he was a bit irritable for the after-party.

Here's a video of Simon walking. He started walking about a week before his birthday. One would think that would've warranted a post to this blog... oh well.

First Birthday Party

FYI - I am no longer apologizing for the length of time between posts. It is what it is ;-)

Simon's first birthday party was on Saturday. A little early, but he didn't seem to mind. Here's a video of the cake thing. It's a little long even though I cut it as much as a parent could. Looks like I need an impartial editor.

Worst. Blogger. Ever.

Sorry, I'm the world's worst blogger. It has been almost three months and that's quite a while in baby-time. I've got some crawling video I need to get posted. Simon figured it out about two weeks ago. The first week, I don't think he quite grasped how big of a deal it was... but now he's exploring everything. He is quickly showing us the things we missed in baby-proofing.

Nancy ran the Phoenix Marathon in January. Six months post-partum and qualified for Boston... not too shabby! The Springers, Simon, and I were there to help cheer her on:

"SANTA! I know him! I know him!"

Lincoln Racquet Club had Santa stop by tonight. Unfortunately, Simon missed out on playing tennis with Santa earlier in the evening. That must have been quite a sight! Maybe next year, buddy.

Bonus points to the first reader to name the movie quoted in this post's title. In case you need help, remember... yellow ones don't stop.

Simon the Snowbird

Simon, Nancy, and I went down to Florida for Thanksgiving. Obviously, this year we had many things for which to be thankful. Most of those were Simon-related, but still.

Nancy and I learned a great deal on our first long-distance trip with an infant. Mainly, we learned that Chaos Theory is alive and well. For those unfamiliar with the theory, its gist is that if a butterfly flaps it wings in China, Simon will scream when he should be happy. Or, vice versa.

One thing we learned is that infants like weather delays in airports as much as the rest of us. I'm sure that played into the meltdown Simon had while we waited for an hour on the tarmac in Chicago. However, knowledge of that provided no solace to the 57 rows of passengers that could not escape his shrill protestations.

All in all though, we had a great trip. It was very nice for Simon to see Uncle Troy, Grandma Jane, Grandpa R.C., and Great-Grandma Verla again.

Precursor to Crawling

This was taken at Brian and Nancy's house. Those plastic keys were out of reach before he inch-wormed his way to them. It's only a matter of time now. I better get our house child-proofed soon!
